Hi Guys! I am working on getting all of my projects out to you guys before beginning new ones. I am starting with my guest bathroom project first. My guest bathroom has not had much use since I moved in but having family and friends in town gave me a fantastic reason to complete this DIY. I knew starting out that I wanted a guest suite feel with my spare bedroom and bathroom. I wanted a spa design that was light, airy, and peaceful. When guest are over I want them to feel like guest in my home so I am pulling out all of the stops. You can also watch this makeover come to life on my YouTube channel (HERE).
The first step was deciding on a paint color. With majority of my home being white with bold moody accent walls, I wanted to soften up this portion of my home for a light glam/luxe look. I love Benjamin Moore paints and most of my home is Benjamin Moore paint so I choose a light gray paint in the color Moonshine. After deciding on the paint color I created a design board for inspiration and began gathering supplies. All of my DIYs so far have been budget friendly so I try my best to save money whenever I can.

Decor:
Mirror
Now that we have all of the supplies, the first thing I completed was the mirror trim. I used a miter box with hand saw to do miter cuts to connect the trim around the mirror. Once all four pieces were cut. I adhered them to mirror using mirror gorilla glue but switched to this GLUE because it did not leave any residue.
Vanity
Next on my list was the vanity. I prepped the vanity using the same steps used in my Painting Laminate Cabinets Blog.I started by giving the vanity two coats of primer (Zinsser) letting that dry for an hour or so before adding two coats of the Moonshine paint.
Sink
While letting the paint dry I moved on to the cracked sink that looked so bad. Using Milliput instructions, I knead the product together and then filled the cracks in the sink repeatedly until I felt it was enough. This product dries fast and hard so in between repetition it is important to wipe away excess.
The next day I sand the sink before spraying it with epoxy spray paint. I knew my faucet was going to be replaced so I did not protect the hardware in sink but I recommend you tape around it if you are keeping the hardware because when I painted the countertops the paint turned yellow on parts of the sink it touched. I resprayed sink with epoxy spray paint.
(Tip: if you spray sink with the epoxy I recommend repainting the rim of the sink with Giani Granite white primer to ensure the spray epoxy does not get on to the Giani paint. I did this accidentally and had to sand the areas that turned yellow and repaint and epoxy them).
Countertops
.
Using the same kit I used for my FAUX Marble Countertops I opted for a marble countertop look using the same exact steps. I only needed to replace the white primer from the kit as it had dried in the container. This kit is excellent and i was able to use one kit on my full kitchen and two bathrooms.
Window
After painting the Vanity, I decided to use the remaining paint to paint the trim to include the window trim that I added. To install I removed old frame under the windowsill using a utility knife and a pry bar. Once removed, I used scrap wood from other DIY projects.
I wanted to frame this window different from how I framed the others in my home using 1×3 and 1×2 pine boards. I adhered the wood using brad nailer (2 inch nails).
I touched up the wall where the paint was removed by wood trim and gave it two fresh coats of Moonshine paint and spray painted the tan trim white. I covered the window using a plastic trash bag before using spray paint.
Light Fixture
As an over zealous DIYer I replaced the light fixture myself. It was rather easy and took me about 5 -10 minutes to install. This fixture sat in the box for a few months when it was by far the most simple DIY following the included instructions.
Floors
My goal is to have all of the flooring in my bathrooms updated just as the rest of the house has been but for now I decided to paint them using Fusion Mineral Paint. I chose a stencil close to the tile design I actually wanted and it worked out great.
I first painted the floors in a darker gray by mixing the black and white together but later decided to use a lighter floor paint instead.
Once letting the floor dry, I went in with Raw Silk Fusion paint, stencil, and stencil brush to paint the pattern on the floor. I used a paper towel to off load some of the paint before dapping stencil design with brush. I loved the design however i wanted something with more dimension so I stopped here and decided I will put in new flooring instead. If you do decided to try this i recommend that you seal floors with a low gloss sealer I used (Clear Seal) in my powder room.
What I like about the stencil is that it came with smaller stencil pieces for tough to reach corners and it just really anticipates what you will need to complete this project.
Once this final step was complete I was finally able to decorate fully making this space calming and tranquil. As you know this is a budget friendly page so most if not all decor items were things that were either thrifted or I repurposed from other places in my home. To say that I am pleased with this outcome would be an understatement because the before was just so drafty and dull. This inexpensive DIY was fun and exciting to see this beautiful transformation.
