When coming up with this design I was really obsessed with moody colors and thought that the powder room would be the best place in my home to execute a moody look. My powder room is very dark and does not have natural lighting due to not having any windows. Initially I painted the walls white because they were grey when I moved in and I wanted to make it appear brighter but I decided to play into the darkness instead. This decision definitely was the way to go as it still feels open and inviting. My entire house is mainly white so the green gives it such a great contrast. Check out my YouTube video on how I updated this half-bath YouTube.

SUPPLIES:

DECOR:

BEFORE:

To start this project I made a design board. I purchased the items but decided to mix some of the pieces with guest bathroom.

The first thing I do before starting any project is prep my work space. I started by removing all decor, cleaning, and filling nail holes.ย

I always like to abide by the cut once measure twice rule so I try to get my measurements as accurate. My goal was to have a 1×6 wrapping around the center but I used what I already had which was a 1X4.ย The vertical boards were 1×3โ€™s. Once I measured out the wood I adhered them to the wall using my brad nailer and 2 inch brad nails. You could also use nail glue for additional support. I am currently on the second DIY for this bathroom so opting out of the glue would suit me best in case I change my mind. The glue would just cause more damage to remove.ย

Once all of my boards are secured I use wood filler to fill all holes left from brad nailer. Once the wood filler dried I used sand paper to smooth everything out for paint.ย In addition to sanding I caulked all gaps.

Paint

I painted everything using Behr CGREEN. I did paint the ceiling using the same white that is throughout my home to make the green pop more. I absolutely love this color. I chose this color because I already had it on hand ย from painting my bedroom wall. My friends and family rave about this color and Iโ€™ve quickly learned that this is everyoneโ€™s favorite color.

Floors

My idea for the floors was to have something give the green a pop. The black and white contrast with the green so well making it feel fun but also sophisticated. I first primed the floors using used Fusion Paint primer with 2 coats 24 hours between coats. I then painted black and white squares usingย Fusion Paintโ€˜s Raw Silk and Coal Black. I painted the white squares first and then the black squares. To finish off the look use a good sealant. I recommend using green frog tape when painting floors.

I am huge on budget friendly DIYโ€™s so the vase was thrifted from Goodwill as well as the picture/frame above it. The mirror I purchased on Amazon as well as the gold hardware. I do plan to change out the hardware completely but I am having a hard time deciding on silver or gold.ย

I really hope you enjoyed this DIY and if this is something that you are interested in trying please leave a comment.
